Insulation
Fire Creek Forge has some good pointers on building your own and the importance of choosing your insulation.
If you buy a forge with soft fluffy insulation (ceramic wool), be sure to cover it with fire cement. The fibres are extremely dangerous. I have only recently learned of this and my forge had a wool back.
